Sheer, Dimout, and Blackout: What Is the Difference?

A fabric name is only a guide. The real room depends on window direction, the cloth, and the install. These three levels make it easier to plan layers.
Sheer
Sheers filter light and soften the room. They do not make it dark. Night-time privacy is often less than daytime privacy. Use them alone in rooms that should stay bright, or pair them with a heavier curtain.
Dimout
Dimout cuts glare without a fully dark room. It suits living rooms, studies, or spaces where you want rest for the eyes but still enough light to read. Some cloths look far more solid than sheer, yet light still comes through.
Blackout
Blackout aims to block as much light as possible for sleep or a screen. Light can still leak at the edges if the fitting is not close. If you want an airy look and darkness only sometimes, use two layers.
Choosing in a Phuket home
West-facing rooms with hard afternoon sun often need sheer plus a heavier cloth. Bedrooms that should stay dark in the morning may need blackout. Guest living rooms that should stay bright can stay on sheer or dimout.
Screen colours differ from real cloth. Look at samples in the shop, or book a visit so the team can bring fabrics to your home.
