Sheer
Sheers soften daylight and keep a room from feeling bare at the glass. How much you can see through them depends on the weave, the colour, and how strong the light is.
What a sheer layer does
A sheer filters sun, adds a soft edge to the window, and can be enough on its own in a room that does not need night-time privacy. Many homes hang a sheer with a dim-out or blackout that draws in the evening.
Privacy is not automatic. In the day, people outside may see less; at night with lamps on, a sheer can still read as transparent. We talk through that honestly with the sample in the room’s light.
Choosing the cloth
Look at colour, weave, and how the fabric hangs. A heading such as ripple fold or pinch pleat changes the way the sheer stacks. The shop can show samples against your window photos.
If you need more privacy after dark, plan a second layer at the same time so the tracks or rods are right from the start.
Sheer curtains in Phuket often hang in front of blackout curtains. Ask for both layers in one curtain quotation.
A good fit when
- Living rooms and bedrooms that want softened daylight
- Layered windows with a heavier cloth for the evening
- Spaces where a hard blind would feel too severe
What helps us advise you
- Window photos in daylight, and if possible a night photo with the lights on
- Whether the sheer will hang alone or with a second layer
- The heading you prefer, if you already have one in mind
