How to Measure Windows Before Ordering Curtains
Published 11/2/2026 · Sheng-Fa Curtain Phuket
You do not need every millimetre before you ask. Cutting curtains does need a clear width, drop, and fitting method. Knowing what to measure reduces later changes.
Photos that help
Take a daytime photo of the full opening. Include the frame, floor, ceiling, and the sides where fabric will stack. For sliding doors, photograph them open and closed.
Say how many windows are in the room, and whether it is a bedroom, living room, or balcony. Fabric and layers often differ from room to room.
Width and drop
Measure the width the curtains should cover, not only the glass. If the track sits above the frame, include the extra on each side. Measure drop from where the track or rod will sit down to where you want the hem — floor or sill.
Treat a run of windows as a group, and say whether you want separate panels or one set.
Leave room to stack
Curtains need space when they are fully open, especially on a walk-through door. If that space is too small, fabric blocks the path or the handle.
Bays, corners, and sloped ceilings need extra photos. They do not fit the same way as a flat run.
What to send with your question
Photos, a rough size, the Phuket location, a style you like, and a budget range are enough to start. If you would rather not measure, book a home visit when the schedule allows so sizes can be confirmed for a quotation.
