How to Care for Your Curtains
Published 10/6/2026 · Sheng-Fa Curtain Phuket
Curtains collect dust and sunlight every day. In Phuket, strong sun and humidity make fabric fade and smell musty if it stays closed and damp. Simple care keeps curtains looking better without taking them down too often.
Weekly care
Vacuum both sides of the fabric from top to hem with a brush or upholstery tool. Open sheers now and then so air can move after rain.
If you have pets, vacuum the hem and the track as well. Hair and dust gather there first.
Spot cleaning
Blot food or hand marks with a clean cloth and a little water. Do not scrub hard, and do not use bleach on coloured fabric until you know the cloth.
Some dimout and blackout backings do not like a lot of water. If you are unsure, send a photo of the mark before using any cleaner.
When to wash the whole curtain
Wash when the fabric smells musty, looks dull all over, or holds thick dust. How often depends on the cloth. Sheers are usually easier to clean than lined or blackout curtains.
Remove hooks, tiebacks, and gliders first, and note which panel belongs where so they hang correctly afterwards.
Tracks, rods, and wet rooms
Wipe tracks and rods from time to time so dust does not fall onto clean fabric. In bathrooms, air the room after a shower and choose a fabric that suits moisture when you order.
If you are not sure whether a curtain can go in a machine, send the fabric type or a photo to the shop.
